About the Owner ( Article By: 1000awesomethingsaboutcuracao.com)

Randhy Cuevas (37) has hiked to the top of the Christoffel — Curaçao’s tallest peak at 1,292 feet — 3,680 times over the past 20 years. Three, four, five times a day, sometimes twice or three times a week. He looks to break his record of 8 minutes and 54 seconds at the end of March 2014. (It takes an average person about 1 hour to get to the top)

How? “I’m not afraid, I actually run up and down the steepest parts. And sing at the top of my lungs!”

Randhy is a man of many talents. He’s an accomplished hiker, long-distance runner, dancer, singer, volunteer, radio talk show host, to name a few. Twenty years ago, he studied to become an electrician, but he decided to wash cars instead. “I’d wash cars from 7 am to 7 pm to make ends meet, before I received a loan from SFT bank and was able to start my own business: Criss Cross Cycling Tours Curaçao.”

Climb to the Roses

On January 10, 2014, Randhy decided to put his physical prowess to awesome use:

He climbed the Christoffel 10 times over the course of 9 hours as part of Climb to the Roses’ and managed to raise NAf. 32,000 ($18,250) for cancer treatment, awareness and prevention.

But the climb proved plenty treacherous.

“I’m a fighter. It takes a lot for me to give up. I trust in God and keep charging ahead. Obviously, the fundraising goal was an added incentive.”

Randhy’s extraordinary physical feat serves as inspiration for many: his hike mirrors the hardship and suffering inherent in cancer and his persevering against odds recall the slow and steady treatments towards remission.

The Eternal Optimist

Randhy is a big fan of healthy living, he sticks to a vegan diet (no meat, no eggs, no dairy) and spends a lot of time outdoors. I was surprised to learn about his interest in poetry, so I asked him to share one of his poems. Enjoy!
